Getting to and from Kampot

Kampot is on the South-East coast of Cambodia, very close to Vietnam.

from Phnom Penh, Cambodia


Train - the train leaves Phnom Penh, every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and on some Cambodian Holidays.
           3pm on Fridays, and 7am on Saturday and Sunday.  The trip is about 5-7 hours and costs is $6
          You can put your car on the train for $14, small motorcycle for $5 and Big bike for $10.  You can reserve a seat on-line.  But best to go to the train station ahead of time and get your tickets. Look for the 2 tallest buildings in Phnom Penh, and you'll be near the train station.  Phnom Penh Train Station Open Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm. Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 4pm.

Bus and Mini-Van  - Buses and mini-vans leave Phnom Penh starting at 8am, 1pm and 5:30pm.  Tickets are around $9 for the buses and a bit less for a mini-van.  It's about a 3 hour ride or more.  (if you get out of downtown Phnom Penh quickly).  Any hotel or travel shop should be able to get you a ticket.  The buses stop at the bus station in downtown Kampot, and you can get out ahead of the last stop if you want.  It's only a 5 minute walk or less from the bus station to the riverside.  You can also get a moto-dup (motorcycle taxi) or Tuk Tuk (a cart for 1 - 4 people from the bus station.  Use PassApp to get the best prices (and they should get you to the right place the first time)

Car - You can get a private taxi to Kampot any time you like, and you get door-to-door service. A whole car costs about $35, and a shared taxi from Phnom Penh from Psar Dang Kor for $5. You'll have to wait until the car is full with other passengers before they leave though.

From Kep, Cambodia

It's a half hour ride from Kep to Kampot.  You can take your own motorcycle as many do, or get a car for $12, or Tuk Tuk for about $10.  A motorcycle taxi costs $4.  You can rent baby automatic motorcycles in Kampot or Kep for about $4 a day, and $1 of gas gets you up to 1 hour drive time.  Driving's pretty easy here.  If you're coming from Vietnam, you will probably have to get to Kep first and then onwards to Kampot.

The Crab Shuttle has a 2.5 hour boat ride from Kep to Kampot.  $10 per person one way and $13.50 return. Enjoyable on a nice day!

From SihanoukVille, Cambodia

From SihanoukVille, it's about an hour and a half ride by road.  You can get a shared taxi at the market for $5 a person, or private taxi for $25.  A couple bus companies have the trip for $5. Around 7:30am and 11:30am for the bus  , And 8am,11am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm. for a mini-van. You can get your ticket at any hotel or travel agent in town.

By Train - The train leaves SihanoukVille at 7am Saturday, and Sunday and 7am and 4pm, and on Monday at 7am.  It cost $5, ($14 for a car on the train, $5 for a motorcycle and $10 for a Big Bike), and takes 2 or more hours.  SihanoukVille Train Station Open Monday, Wednesday Thursday Friday from 8am to 4pm.  Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 4pm

Airport 

There's no airport in Kampot yet, but the Chinese might put one there soon, near the port they're building..

- From the Phnom Penh Airport, you can get a private taxi for around $35+ for a 3.5 hour trip.  From the SihanoukVille Airport, it's an hour+ drive and about $30.

Getting Out of Kampot

From Kampot, you can travel by train, bus, mini-van or car

The Train station is about 5 minutes out of town, and you can get to SihanoukVille or Phnom Penh for $5 to $8.

Cars, mini-vans and buses leave from the Kampot Bus Station downtown all day and night. If you arrange for a private taxi or van, you can get door to door service anytime, day or night.  You can get bus or van tickets at any hotel or travel agent in town, or get your ticket at the bus station....  Best to book a day ahead to ensure you get a seat.

To get to Kep, you can take the 2.5 hour Crab Shuttle for $10, or get a half hour ride by Tuk Tuk, private car or motorcycle, for $3 to $15.

Getting Around in Kampot

Walking, Bicycle, Tuk Tuk, Motorcycle, Car.

Downtown, you can walk to almost a hundred bars, restaurants, and hotels.

Bicycles rent for about $2 a day here, and it's really flat (except for Bokor Mountain, 1km up, of course)

Tuk Tuks, carts pulled by a motorcycle, you can hop on and off anywhere, costs 50 cents and up.  We use PassApp here to call for a ride at the best price (and easiest and best service).  Starts at 75 cents.  You can also get a "motodup"  a motorcycle taxi, to take you most anywhere,  35 cents and up.  Except for the PassApp, you need to negotiate the price everytime you get a ride.  

Motorcycles here are baby automatic motorcycles, and rent from $4 to $5 a day.

Cars, you can get at the bus station, and they're $45 for the whole day.
