Kampot does have a beach.
Actually, several beaches.
* One is 20 kilometers out of town at Nataya Resort. You'll have to pay to get in, but you get a great meal out of the deal.
* One is about 10km out of town near Sonja Kill Hospital. Doctors from the hospital like to eat at Ciao Italian Restaurant near the beach (instead of driving 15 minutes to downtown) This will be the main beach soon. You'll want to take your own food, drinks, and shade here. You can fish from the beach, (or in the water)
* On Fish Island, there is at least one swimming beach with white sand and palm trees. Not great swimming though. You'll want to take some drinks and food here.
And several more rocky beaches.
Not many visitors to the beach though.
Fish Island is 2 minutes from downtown Kampot, but it's another 20 minutes to get to the beach.
Beautiful drive, but getting close to the beach, it's a bumpy dirt road.
Great for motorcycles, which most tourists rent as soon as they get to town.
To get to the sandy beach, go to Phnom Doang, (Coconut Mountain), except turn left after going between the two mountains, instead of going straight. A few minute ride, and you're there. You'll have to park, and walk on a path to the left about 1 minute to get there. On holidays and weekends, there could be quite a few people there. Otherwise, it's really empty. No electricity. Bring your own food and drinks.
